Plan to be in front of your TV set Sunday night, because that’s when CBS will air Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night, an all-star, two-hour concert extravaganza featuring some of the genre’s top artists all in one place.
Tim is the star of the evening, but his guest list is massive. Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, 2013 ACM Entertainer of the Year winner Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line (with rapper Nelly), Brantley Gilbert, and Faith Hill are among the performers. In addition, Tim performs current single “Highway Don’t Care” with Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, duets with Ne-Yo and Pitbull, and rocks out with CCR legend John Fogerty.
As US99.5 on-air personality Trish Biondo points out in a new Radio.com Essentials profile on McGraw, the range of music represented on the show is no big surprise. “What’s great about Tim is that he’s a fan of music no matter what,” she says. “He loves country music, but it’s fun to see him go out and bring in artists that he’s interested in and excited about.”
Scott Borchetta, president and CEO of Big Machine (McGraw’s new label), points to Tim’s duet with Ne-Yo as a highlight of the show. “I love when Tim sings with Ne-Yo, because he sings completely differently. After the performance I spoke with Tim and said, ‘We’ve got to cut a record like that, because you sing so incredibly well in that space.'”
The show was taped April 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, a day after the Academy of Country Music Awards, and it airs Sunday, May 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
